It is used to differentiate VLOOKUP from the HLOOKUP function that looks up a value in the top row of an array (H stands for "horizontal"). The VLOOKUP function is available in all versions of Excel 2013, Excel 2010, Excel 2007, Excel 2003, Excel XP and Excel 2000.


Again you will use VLOOKUP to search in the same table using an exact match, but the results will then be used in a further calculation.
